What is Reiki? Reiki is a Japanese energy healing therapy that reduces stress, anxiety, and promotes physical and mental healing through gentle touch. A safe and complementary therapy, Reiki activates the parasympathetic nervous system (“rest and digest”) to heal the body and mind.

The Basics

Everything has energy in it. Energy is constantly flowing through us via the nervous system. Emotions such as fear, worry, or grief –if not processed—get stuck in the body, creating blockages. At that point, our energy cannot travel throughout our body with ease, as it should, and could turn into physical “DIS-ease”. Imagine a flowing river. Now imagine rocks and pebbles are being thrown into that river, preventing the water from effortlessly moving downstream. During a Reiki treatment, the pure flow of energy is realigned in the body, clearing obstructions and strengthening that flow of energy.

What to Expect During a Reiki Session?

Wear comfortable clothing. You’ll be lying down, fully clothed, on a treatment table. A bolster under your knees and a blanket are available to you if you would like to use them. During this session the goal is for you to fully relax. I will either work hands on or hands off. If you would prefer hands off, please know that you will still experience all of the benefits of Reiki.

During the session, you may feel warm or cold, fall asleep, a burst of energy, an overall feeling of optimism and happiness, tingling or buzzing, the urge to cry, or other emotions. This is all normal and everyone experiences Reiki differently depending on the person and the day. Emotions are energy. They may be “stuck” somewhere in your body. By allowing them to come up and out, you are moving energy. Energy that is moving can transmute (for example: from sadness to a feeling of calm peace).

At the end of the session, if you have fallen asleep, I will gently wake you. You may take a little time to become more alert, and slowly sit up. At this time, I will give you some water. It’s important to drink plenty of water afterward, as this aids in the cleansing process. Then, we can talk about what you experienced during any part of the session and if you have any questions.

Please continue to hydrate over the next couple of days and practice gentle self-care.

“It really works. It feels like a weighted blanket. I’ve had massages, and have never been able to relax like this. It’s amazing.”

“I constantly carry physical and emotional stress in my body, every day. As my Reiki treatment with Laura progressed, I could feel my body relaxing and my stress diminishing. At the end of my treatment, I was amazingly aware that my entire body and mind were completely relaxed and calm. Laura is a kind and empathic person who understands her client’s needs."
Esther L.
“Normally I have trouble calming my mind, but I was able to during the session, and in the middle of my workday, too.”
Hilary B.
“I just had my first Reiki experience with Laura. I am a psychotherapist myself and I can say quite definitely that Laura is a strong, powerful, and gifted healer. She follows her intuition, going where the energy needs to go, and her hands are warmed because of the energy flowing through them. As a Reiki Master, Laura has a loving presence when discussing the healing session afterwards. You can tell she really cares. A session with her is a powerful experience of stress relief, emotional release, and transformation. Importantly, she helped release the physical sciatica pain I had been experiencing. I highly recommend the Reiki work with Laura, if you need help with pain or issues that you can’t let go of. The results of my session included feeling more calm and present in my day to day actions. She is truly amazing.”

How Often Should I Schedule Reiki Sessions?

That all depends on you. You may feel that one session was all you had needed. You may also want to schedule once a year/month/week. You can’t overdo it with Reiki. Most people find that Reiki is their stress management relaxation time. Much like some people have a spa day, you can have a Reiki session.

Science Behind Sound Healing

Science Behind Sound Healing

Everything in the universe is in a state of vibration, including us. Vibration is energy itself, moving through matter, like our bodies. By listening to sound or music at a certain level (frequency) of vibration, our bodies begin to synchronize to that new vibration.

This is called entrainment. Entrainment involves the process of modifying brainwaves, breath, movement, emotions or thoughts by matching the rhythm of an external stimulus, such as music, to our mind and body. For example, slow music entrains your pulse to beat at a slower rate.

Another example would be listening to the harmonics of a mallet on a singing bowl. Once you are experiencing the vibrational changes in your body, you can begin the healing on a physical, emotional, and spiritual level.

Learning About Laura

At a very young age, I read Louise L. Hay’s “You Can Heal Your Life”, and learned about the mind/body connection, which immediately resonated with me. Some years later, I met an acting coach who taught me all about using breath and tonal vibration, which took my creativity and productivity to a new level.

Then, a few years ago, I was going through a difficult transition in my life. I was in pain, both physically and emotionally. I had decided to try Reiki as supplemental therapy at the time, and then found a very talented Reiki Practitioner to work with me. After my first session, I felt a profound serenity in both mind and body, which allowed for deeper breathing, clearer thought, and a calm, peaceful sensation throughout. I continued on for a few more sessions, and decided that this was a game changer. I studied and became a Reiki Practitioner; to always have Reiki in my life to help not only myself, but others.
